DocAve Troubleshooting and Event IDs

Sometimes you’ll come across some problems. Like a job in the Job Monitor says it’s “finished with exceptions”. In that case you need to investigate and do some troubleshooting. In the job monitor you have to select the job with the error message and select the View Details button.

In the next screen that opens you stay on the summary tab and scroll down to statistics. Most of the time you find the reason why the error occurred in the comment section.

The highlighted messages states to refer to the Media Service log for more details.

In the Control Panael >> Log Manager you can collect specific data for all services.

A job for collecting the log output is created. Go to the Job Monitor select the job when it's finished and click View Details. In the next screen you can download a zip file containing all the logs.

Open the logs with notepad and use Control + F to open a search box and search for the word ERROR. Hopefully it will provide you an other peace of the puzzle. If it’s not clear and you need to continue troubleshooting you can consult the Windows Event Logs.

Below in the Event Viewer you find the Applications and Service logs. AvePoint added his own folder with specific AvePoint Event IDs. Filter the Events on using the Filter Current Log in the action pane and start investigating.

AvePoint Event ID list

If you find the Event ID you can navigate to the AvePoint Event ID list which will provide you with some possible solutions.

Agent Logs

The DocAve agent itself also generate log files which can be handy during your troubleshooting adventure. You caan find them on every server whith the agent in stalled in, C:\Program Files\AvePoint\DocAve6\Agent\Logs

Permissions

Tip, not always but 9 out of 10 times the reason for any error is a permission issue. Some how a service account cannot access a folder or database.

Consult the specific user guide from the DocAve site for detailed permissions.

Health Analyzer

One final tip, from the DocAve Dashboard you can choose the Health Analyzer Option, create a profile and run it. The result will be a nice detailed report with issues DocAve is running in to.

In an other post I'll describe in dedail how to use and setup the Healt Analyzer.
